Customer Reviews

Yes, it's a screenplay. Get over it. - Rated 3/5
And yes, its a decent one, although the format hardly does Garland's work justice, and without his usual narrative flair it does become a little tedious, but hey, whet can you expect. Watch the film, it's much better.
But for God's sake! Why give it one star simply because you though it was a novel and it turned out to be a screenplay?! Your own idiocy does not warrant bringing the book's avarage rating down two-and-a-half stars! I'm almost tempted to give it five stars to balance the ratings out, but unlike you, when I write a review, it acually reviews the item in question. Anyway, a decent novel...sorry, screenplay, but the film is far more interesting. All you other idiots out there, take this as a warning; dont buy if you want a novel, dont write a review because youre too thick to find out beforehand.
Dumbass.

I thought this was a novel! - Rated 1/5
As the previous reviewer said, the description does not make it clear that this is a screenplay, not a novel! I was really looking forward to reading it and was putting off seeing the film until I had read the book - doh!!!

Lightweight but does the job - Rated 4/5
As the item description doesn't make this clear, it's worth mentioning that this is the screenplay, not a novelisation of the film. It's accompanied by an interesting introduction by Alex Garland, and followed by a brief selection of storyboards and concept sketches (maybe a dozen pages in all) in black and white. It's nice to see what changes were made between this version of the script and shooting, and it provides an insight into the intended symbolism of the piece, but it may be worth waiting for a more comprehensive treatment. A coffee table book like The Art of the Matrix is a bit much to hope for, but it would be a nice complement to a film which depends so heavily on amazing images.
