Its not bad at all... worthwhile, in fact. - Rated
True - there are no recipe illustrations whatsoever.
(There are some line drawings, but effectively just for decoration and layout purposes).
Untrue that its really about things for cooking away from the fire.
But the very first section is about (indoor made) accompanying sauces.

Gloop on a cabbage leaf? I can't find any cabbage leaf mentions at all.
However the second section does deal with appetisers and dips - which again don't go on the fire.

However, it'd be a mistake not to look any further.
The middle third of the book has sections entitled "Straight on the barbecue", "Kebabs" and "Foil Parcels".
All for cooking on the fire.

The last third of the book deals with Salads, Accompaniments (some for finishing on the fire) and appropriate Desserts (some of which are also done on the fire).

I like the functional page layout.
No recipe sprawls to require turning the page (great when hands are messy).
Quantities are given in large print AND in Metric, Imperial and American measures. (Excellent!)
And time estimates for Prep, Marinading and Cooking are clearly flagged up for each recipe, and in a consistent format. They all seem to be pretty quick.

There may be no photos of flames, but if you have a Veggie coming to your barbecue party, you'd be pleased to have this cheap paperback to turn to.
And carnivores will probably enjoy most of the dishes too! (Just don't mention that they came from a Veggie book...)

I found this really useful for ideas of food that vegetarians can eat at BBQs that are original and interesting!

"Hallelujah" I thought when I first saw this book was available.. Quickly ordered it... and erm, when it arrived quickly sent it back.

No pictures. Uninspired... Then again, there are only 2 Veggie BBQ books I am aware of, so I dread to think what the other one is like. HaHa.

Sorry to sound so scathing, but this book is filled with salads, and things you half cook on the BBQ and then have to go into the kitchen and finish preparing. ASPIRING AUTHORS TAKE NOTE: Most veggies want to be able to pre-prepare BBQ food that they can forget about all afternoon, and then just throw on the BBQ and eat. Just like the meat-eaters do. In 'mixed' company, I personally do not want to be seen as the veggie health freak. Some gloop wrapped in a cabbage leaf or a stuffed mushroom that I've had to disappear into the kitchen to finish preparing, while everyonelse is outside in the sunshine, isn't what I want from a BBQ book.

Best thing would be to either use the book to get the BBQ flames going, or recycle it.
