Mmmm fresh bread - Rated
I'm surprised by the previous reviewer who had problems with these recipes. I bought this book more or less at the same time as I bought my breadmaker and, although I didn't have any experience initially, I have found that all of the recipes I've followed from this book have worked well and been delicious. I'm particularly partial to the coarsegrain mustard bread, which seems to go with everything, and the coconut ice bread is lovely with curries. I like this book so much that I am buying copies for friends and families too.
Really good recipes - Rated
I bought this and have had no problems with any of the recipes, they've worked really well. Definately worth buying as it is great value. To the reader who had problems I'd suggest starting with more simple recipes until they get the hang of it; with a bit of practice the more adventurous recipes work really well
Great recipes - inedible results! - Rated
It was the 'sweet potato, honey and peanut bread' recipe which first caught my attention, and for the great price of this book, I'd have bought it just for that one! All the recipes in here actually sound delicious, but I'm afriad the way they sound is all I can comment on, as so far I have tried four times to make two recipes and none have worked! The author advises using 'traditional active dried yeast', the sort you would usually use for hand baking. She says it works fine in breadmakers, just sprinkled over as the last ingredient. I was a little unsure about this as it staes quite clearly on the tins of above-mentioned yeast that it is not suitable for bread machines. I decided the first time, to stick with my usual fast acting bread machine-specific yeast, and the breads didn't work. They rose a little but were hardly what I'd consider a successful loaf. I decided I couldn't really complain as I hadn't done it exactly as the author had instructed. So I bought some of the yeast she recommended and tried again, with two different loaves. They didn't rise at all and even the seagulls weren't very interested in eating the results!
I want so much to be able to make these recipes but just don't get what I'm doing wrong! I'd be really interested to read reviews from other people who have bought this book and have positive results!
