Too many ingredients in some recipes. - Rated
I bought this book quite a while ago but have only recently got the cooking bug! A great variety of recipes, nicely separated into different chapters according to what eqipment you need to make them, e.g. one pan, 2 pans + grill, whole kitchen, etc.
A few complaints though, I would prefer some simpler recipes, needing fewer ingredients, so there is no need to buy things you would only use once or twice. Also, there are no pictures in this book, which I like to have so I know my food looks like it should, without having to rely on just the recipe instructions.
Quite good. - Rated
A nice book, comforting to flick through and very mindful of students needs, but they are not so much recipes as suggestions and the tone of the book is a little condescending.
Toast in a Microwave...... - Rated
This book is pretty ridiculous.
As a student myself I find it extremely condescending and at times quite dangerous. Certain recipes suggest microwaving bread for two minutes... which does not result in toast, but in flames, a burnt microwave and the whole of student halls being emptied out because the fire alarm went off.
Easy cooking - Rated
When I decided that it was time to forego frozen food and start cooking a bit myself - after living on my own for two years - this was one of the books I picked up. I'm not a gourmet chef. My dorm-room kitchen is definitely subpar when it comes to size and facilities. Yet, I managed to produce edible, and tasty, dishes with the help from this book.
Some of the recipes I tried were a failure - perhaps due to the fact that my Scandinavian palate wasn't accustomed to some of the more "exotic" British dishes? But the majority of them went down without a hitch, and I've found myself making the brown onion soup over and over - as it freezes and can be reheated quite easily.
My favourite part about this book, however, is actually the size of the recipes. A large number of them are meant for one, which I like, living on my own. But if I want to cook for friends, there are also several that are meant for more than one. :)
It's a pity that it is a paperback, as some of the pages of my copy came loose, from overuse. But that's the way it is.
Truly superb - Rated

This recipe book is a superb addition to anyone's culinary library - clearly not every recipe will suit every person but it is inconceivable that you would not find a significant number of useful recipes in here and even if you found just one nugget, then considering the price, it would be well worth it.
The variety of recipes in the 1000 series is simply staggering - to say you are stuck for choice is an understatement.
Ok, so there are no photographs but against that, the books don't cost a fortune either and they are compact.
You really cannot go wrong with any of these recipe books and when you consider they cost little more than 1 issue of pretty much any food magazine, well, they truly are an absolute bargain.
Buy this one, buy them all - you won't be disappointed.
