Customer Reviews

Excellent read, terrible title. - Rated 5/5
I had looked at this book a few times before making a purchase, the title putting me off each time. However, as a loyal Tudor enthusiast and a Phillippa Gregory fan who has read the Other Boleyn Girl too many times lately I decided to give it a go and I am glad that I did.
In terms of the genre this is definitely up there with Gregory's titles and is enjoyable and gripping, so much so that this was finished in 2 days (working days at that).
Jane Parker is portrayed more sympathetically than some novels and biographies I have read but still emerges very badly. The writing style is fluid and my interest was retained from the first page to the last. Highly recommended for any fans of the Boleyns, historical fiction or just a good novel.

Not as good as The Boleyn Inheritance - Rated 4/5
As an avid historical reader I've read The Boleyn Inheritance and other books on the Boleyn Dynasty and this is a bit far fetched. There seems to be a lot of times when you feel the author is trying to hard to make an interesting read. If you enjoy historical fiction stick to Phillippa Gregory as she seems to tell it like it is rather than glorify everything.

Ok, but.......... - Rated 3/5
I enjoyed reading the story from Jane Rochford's point of view, but some of the details left me a little pereplexed. If this is the first book you've read about Anne Boleyn then you will be fine but if , like me, you've read numerous books you probably won't enjoy it as much.

Vengeance is mine - Rated 5/5
This book bears similarities to Philippa Gregory's The Boleyn Inheritance in that it tells the story of Anne Boleyn and katheirne Howard but, this time the whole book is told from the whole viewpoint of Jane Rochford rather than the 3 different viewpoints.

Going from previous books I have read I always found Jane Rochford to be rather cold and calculating at her involvement in bringing the deaths of Anne & Katherine but, hear I sympathised with her to some degree, how George Boleyn was portrayed he was really quite horrible, at least to Jane there is a particular part where he makes love to her and then in the morning when he says it was you was really horrible and I quite felt for Jane, quite why he married her in the first place I don't know!

And then there is poor Katherine Howard, I'm rather fond of Katherine and really felt for her although she could at times be quite silly I do find her amusing so Jane's part in Katherine's downfall I did not sympathise with! Hearing Katherine practice putting her head on the block was awful, I just can't imagine what must have been going through the poor girls head.

And Anne of Cleves also plays a small part in this book as does Jane Seymour, there is little about Jane Seymour but, as it is told by Jane I guess that is why. There was a little more about Anne of Cleves and the part of Jane cutting her stinky armpit hair was quite gross! I'm so glad I wasn't eating while reading that!

I really really enjoyed this book, if you have read and loved The Boleyn Inheritance you will enjoy this and it was nice to see things through Jane Rochford's eyes.

Jealousy Gone Mad - Rated 5/5
Love love love this book! Similar to The Boleyn Inheritance by Philippa Gregory, this details the life and only love of Lady Jane Rochford. Obsessed with husband George Boleyn, she develops a deep hatred for anyone who takes his attention away from her. None do this more than Anne Boleyn. This book gets under the skin of Jane to the point where you sympathise with the way she is treated by George and that does in some way help to understand her irrational hatred for Anne. However Jane takes this way too far by causing Anne to miscarry the Kings child. She also then provides Henry with a way of getting rid of Anne and her supporters, including Janes beloved husband George. After their deaths Jane still stands by her betrayal of Anne and George justifying what she did although she does regret the loss of her husband. But the pattern is set to repeat itself as she becomes a lady in waiting to Katherine Howard. Jane once again is instrumental in the downfall of another Queen, only this time she is fighting for her own life!
