Excellent cake book. I had not attempted to make birthday cakes before I purchased this book and now I feel like an expert! This book gave clear and easy instructions on how to bake cakes, make icing, butter icing, fairy cakes etc. Highly recommended!!

This book is beautifully illustrated and has some great ideas for cakes for all occasions; birthday, christmas, halloween. It's a good book if you want to create a great looking cake and don't have too much time on your hands (anyone who has young children!). Ideas are included for baking cakes from scratch and converting shop-bought cakes into visual masterpieces. My daughter loved browsing through the pictures to choose her birthday cake and the chocolate-covered number 3 cake I eventually created went down a storm at her party!

I wasn't tremendously pleased with this buy, this book is really for total beginners who want a pretty but not especially tasty birthday cake for their child. The cakes would be okay as mediocre showpieces but on the whole unsuitable for cutting or eating especially if there are quite a number of children invited to your childs party.

What a fantastic book ! If you want to impress your kids (or even adults with silly humour), this is what you are looking for. It gives you loads of ideas to create all types of cakes, from a simple "millie the millipede" made from a series of small cup cakes, to a impressive "haunted house" or "doyouthinkhesawus dinosaur". It even tells you how to cheat !!! I made the penguins' igloo for my nephew, and all the kids loved it. A must have, even if you don't have kids (like me !).

This is a great book, I'm a novice when it comes to cake making and decorating, but I made the Humpty Dumpty cake for my son's 1st birthday recently and it was a great success. 30 minutes is a bit ambitious though - it took me about 2 hours! But I will improve with time. This has given me the confidence to try another cake for my daughter's birthday! I recommend this book!
