A Good Book for Doctors with Grey Hairs - Rated
This is the definitive book for an old hack needing to bone up on his Medicine prior to standing up in front of a pack of fresh young bloodhounds. It refreshes parts the others don't reach and awakens all the dead circuits that were once highly active. Definitely not for your average final year Medical Student unless they've done the groundwork and want to look like they can fly. This is a book for Registars needing an overview and for senior Doctors who want to feel clever again. Rubenstein was an incisive Clinician who cut straight to the bone and the book is the same
It is an exam revision text. - Rated
This is not a book for med students starting out in medicine. It is written in a short telegraphic style for those want a concise text to get them through the MRCP. As such it is ideal. The authors and publishers need to perhaps make this clearer. It is an exam revision text.
One to miss - Rated
This was a real shame. I bought it thinking that, like the rest of the 'Lecture Notes', it would give me the skinny on all the med I needed to know, and would be a useful text for written finals. Unfortunately it just doesn't have anywhere near the breadth required to cover the current curriculum (let alone the detail), even for an overview book.
I think part of the problem was that they had tried to integrate the medicine with clinical examinations - not a bad idea, but not when it's at the expense of whole topics that had been omitted. Definitely one to miss. Buy Crash Course Medicine or Master Medicine - Medicine instead. Or if you want a brief overview, USMLE Step 1 Secrets.
Disappointing horse from a normally excellent stable.
A real disappointment - Rated
Unlike the other lecture noted books I've found this book really unhelpful. Definitely not a book to use for your written finals. If you want a good book for a concise review for revision the concensus is that "Medicine at a glance" is excellent. Kumar and Clark is good for more in depth info.
'Cannot do without' for the MRCP Part 2 examinations - Rated
A must for the MRCP part 2 examinations. Well organised, especially the sections on clinicals. The summaries of all the significant trials is an absolute treasure. Well worth every penny
