groovy riffs and concise text - Rated As a grade 8 classical guitarist trying to get into jazz i have tried many nebulous books that never seem to teach me anything useful. Initially i was concerned that this book would be another flop but when i put on the CD, i was stunned by how cool the various examples sounded. Not only did they capture the tonal qualities of each mode, they were actually worthy of playing in their own right. Of course this book is really only an introduction and is pretty brief. It does assume a reasonable working knowledge of music but the tunes largely speak for themselves. I look forward to trying Kolb's other books.
