Life is about cleaning up the crap and, while you're doing it, being okay with the fact that you have to do it...A word of caution. You can't get caught up in the crap! If you do, you will surely lose sight of the real meaning of life and lose your Self.
Iyanla Vanzant knows plenty about dealing with just such "crap". She has led a difficult life, full of periods of abuse and self-loathing, but she has managed to learn "the lessons beneath the tears" and move beyond her grief and into understanding. In Yesterday, I Cried, she passes these lessons along, continually stressing that past hardships can and should be used to teach us how to grow, heal, and love others and ourselves. The message is one that has been echoed in her best-sellers One Day My Soul Just Opened Up and In the Meantime, but when presented as a memoir, the result is particularly moving.

As any regular Oprah viewer knows, Vanzant is a feisty and charismatic orator, and her no-nonsense style translates well into print. She is candid about her experiences without ever painting herself as a victim, effectively coming across as inspirational rather than preachy or self-pitying. The tone of the book is especially engaging because she seems to be actively working out her problems as she writes, gently pulling the reader into what becomes a mutual catharsis. "Of all things to master", she asks, "why did I have to pick tears?" By the end of Yesterday, I Cried, she finds the answer. And in searching the depths of her own soul, she encourages others to do the same. --Christine Buttery

A Book Every Woman Should Read - Rated 5/5
I brought this book whilst on holiday in Jamaica and could not put it down until I had finished it. No other non-fiction book has so moved me. Iyanla Vanzant is a truly remarkable woman whose life lessons will resonate in the spirit of every woman who has ever questioned the choices she makes in her life. I cried too as I read the process that Rhonda went through on the way to becoming Iyanla. This is a must read.

excellent - Rated 4/5
I would definately buy this book again.
It helped a lot and will continue to help those with girl power and the need for courage to succeed.

Read, relate, reconcile and heal! - Rated 5/5
I actually Bought this book for my daughter as a Christmas present, because we heard Iyanla reading her title poem on the Oprah show. I was so moved by it, that I knew I had to have the book. My daughter loved and understood it, and enjoyed the lessons herein - but when I read it, something quite dramatic happened. Every page was about me. Every anguish, pain, distress, anger, sadness and frustration Rhonda experienced, blared out at me. This was me. I could not put this book down. Now, I know there are those who did not relate to the experiences in this book. I feel happy for you, and am glad you discovered this. But if ever you have felt pain and anger through the cruel and thoughtless actions of another human being, and can't find your way past the pain and anger you still feel, this book will help you find it in yourself to forgive, let go, and open a new fresh chapter in your life. Iyanla - and others like her - deserve our gratitude for being willing to work hard and produce these books. Without them, an awful lot of people would still be in a dark, distressing and hostile place. She is one of the "torches" that can help us find our way.

This book changed the way I looked at things - Rated 5/5
This book was so good that I sent it to 4 other people that I just knew it could not fail to help. Page after page was an eye opener and revealed why things happen in life and how to look at them. It stopped me feeling so guilty about everything.I realised that everything was not my fault and that I had been conditioned to feel this way. It also taught me that what I have always done was correct. Pick yourself up and just get on with life and yes it does all come out well in the end. With a lettle help you can make it so.

Theraputic!!! - Rated 5/5
This book is Theraputic. It helped me to understand and love myself. If you are looking for a self discovery book , this is the one. I like the fact that Iyanla Vanzant talked about her life and then discuss her problems, the solution and most of all the will power to want to evolve. This book will be my gift to all of my friends and family for christmas. You will not want to lend your book, because it will become your life long reference. If you are thinking about getting this book, don't think just get it!!!!
