Highly Recommended - Rated 5/5
This is a fabulous and inspirational book for any creative embroiderer and even those who find the idea of creating a sketchbook somewhat intimidating. It shows those of us who love to stitch but are hopeless at drawing how to set about research and design for a piece of work. It covers a wide range of materials and media including sketching, collage, mark-making and use of computer programs. The book is beautifully illustrated with detailed photos of the work and designs of a number of different textile artists including Julia Caprara, Maggie Grey and the author, Kay Greenlees. Highly recommended!

A well written, useful book for all. - Rated 4/5
I'm currently studying a textile based course at uni but I often work in a more fine art/ computer/ photography way as well. This book is a really good edition to my library because it gave me ideas and new ways of laying out my sketchbooks for exams etc.

Its very well presented in a very modern and easily approachable style and is easily understood and adaptable to every project I've done. It does speak as if you are a new artist or have never used a sketchbook but to be honest I found going back to the beginning really useful and adding this to my current sketchbook knowledge was really great. The illustrations and examples of current artists sketchbooks were very inspiring and it is useful to see that even sucessful artists scribble notes all over and work in very haphazard ways. Very encouraging!

It also has some neat ideas such as making your own sketchbooks and how to encorporate external research into your ideas. I hope this helps! I would definately recommend it and my tutors on my course thought it was pretty helpful too.

Lovely book - Rated 4/5
I bought this book in November, the front cover caught my eye, but then i suddenly noticed the authors name.....she was my course leader on my teacher training course a couple of years ago! I glanced through the book and knew I had to buy it to add to my collection of textile books.

The book is packed with lovely inspirational photos, I just wanted to get straight to my sewing machine. Lots of good explanations and ideas for your own interpretation.

An execllent resource for any designer, beginner, teacher, college student. I recommend this book!

The book of books on sketchbooks - Rated 5/5
This a really helpful book on how to develop your understanding on how keeping a variety of sketchbooks can be fullfilling, and that there is no wrong way just endless perputations! I was always struggling and felt my way was not ideal. I went for the digital camera option and used computer graphics, this is recommended in the book along with other good ideas's and ways of working. Wonderful for the new textile student and great for those of us who have struggled and are looking for new inspiration.
