Not a stand-alone tutor - Rated
The practice tunes are well chosen and well sequenced, but there is no instruction element at all (embouchure, posture, tuning, cleaning etc etc). If you have flute lessons and want this for practice at home it will serve well. I started from scratch on my own and found 'New Tune A Day' far more helpful.

I bought this based on the reviews, as I thought my son would find learning more interesting by playing simple tunes, rather than, as I remember from learning clarinet, the same old practice exercises.

For that, this book gets the three stars. It is very good, with easy to learn, simple tunes to make learning an instrument a positive experience.

Unfortunately, it loses two stars, as the edition I received has a rather key mistake in the fingering illustration for the first three notes. For this, it loses two stars.

Overall, best used with the book recommended by his flute teacher (Flute Basics), as it has the fingering guide in the back.

I bought this book for my daughter a few weeks into her flute lessons. Being a begginer she was slightly unconfident. This book is just magical in its simplicity and after only a couple of months she is managing some lovely tunes. The book contains exercises that are good for begginers building confidence and more experienced players building precision. It manages to deliver rather difficult lessons into a student and tutor friendly manner.

This publication is an essential guide for beginners. With it simple step by step guide, it shows how easy it is to start playing the flute. The diagrams show how to play the different notes, holding the flute the correct way, guidance to playing simple songs helping you to achieve the satisfaction of playing with confidence. My daughter is following this book and in two months has gone from a complete novice to playing the tunes in this book with ease. Don't just take our word for it, try it yourself and find out how easy it is to start learning on how to play the flute.

An ideal book from begginners onwards! - Rated
This music book is perfect for somebody just starting to learn flute. It includes many well known, catchy tunes which are easy to learn. Additionally, it includes instructions on how to play different notes. It progresses to fairly difficult tunes meaning that the book will last a long time and will never become boring. I have enjoyed practising from this book (and older editions) for several years, and would highly reccomend it for any new flautist!
