Complex yet incredibly thorough review of the WORK of WSB. - Rated 3/5
Mottram's book is not for those people who think Burroughs is a bit of a cool character and like to namedrop 'The Naked Lunch' at parties. I can only describe his analysis of the text as mathematical in approach. He leaves no stone unturned and the language can be difficult for the average reader. That said, Mottram's work is the definitive piece on Burrough's WORK and THEORY. There is little space here for rock star style tributes as evidenced in Barry Mile's appalling mess of a book 'El Hombre Invisble'. Rather Mottram provides a thorough and lucid account of the stunning body of work produced by WSB. If you have read Jennie Skerl's book 'WSB At The Front' and enjoyed it then I recommend this.
