A wonderful read! - Rated
"An Elm Creek Sampler" is a wonderful introduction to the world of Elm Creek quilts seeing as it is the three first novels together in one book! In "The Quilter's Apprentice" we are introduced to the women who are central figures for the series - the wonderful and knowledgeble master quilter Sylvia Compson and the ressourseful young woman Sarah McClure, and how they start the transformation of Elm Creek Manor from a run down sales item to the idea of a quilt retreat. We are also introduced to the Tangled Web Quilters - who in "Round Robin" become the staff of Elm Creek quils. In Round Robin we follow their everyday struggles, their ups and downs - this is my favorite among this wonderful series :o) In the last book in the sampler: "Cross Country Quilters" the quilt retreat is really up and running, and here we follow a group of quilters who meet at the manor, we learn how they together find the strength to conquer their problems in life, and how they form a wonderful friendship! Whether you are a quilter or not, read these novels and I know you'll love them!!!
Enjoyable reading - Rated
Although I did not read the sampler edition I did read each of these novels seperately and am now buying the sampler for a friend. These novels are all enjoyable on their own but work far better if they are read in order and without large time spans inbetween, so this sampler will really work well. This book can be enjoyed by anyone but will be of particular interest to anyone who has an interest in quilting and has some knowledge of all the different patterns that they use. The sequel to this novel "The Runaway Quilt" is excellent too, as is the "The Quilter's Legacy". I live in Canada and have alreay been able to read the latter title before it becomes available in Britain. I hope you enjoy these novels as much as I did.
