One of golf guru Jim Flick's mantras is that golf is 90 percent mental and the other 10 per cent is mental, too. Dr. Bob Rotella, a noted sports psychologist and performance consultant, roots around the golfer's mind to expose--and analyse- -the doubts, the fears and the frustrations that haunt anyone who's ever picked up a club and swung it. Through anecdote and aphorism he suggests how these mental and emotional hazards can be played through, and, regardless of skill level, how teeing off with a more positive and confident outlook will translate into better performance.

Customer Reviews

Golf is Not a Game of Perfect - Rated 5/5
A fantastic book, full to the brim of useful and appliable tips, mostly relating to the mental game, but with some advice on the mechanics, too. Improving good shots is a result of the book, but also, crucially, is learning to accept and move on from bad shots, towards an overall positive result. After reading it, my handicap went from 27 to 19, in the space of 2 months. What more can you ask, from a Golf Book?

A must for any golfer - Rated 5/5
An absolute must for those wishing to improve their mental approach to golf and the do's and don'ts on a golf course

Golf is not a game of perfect - Rated 5/5
This book makes you realise how important it is to practice your game off the course rather than on it. You have to be confident in the physical structure of your strokes before you can put the recommended psychological approach to good use.

Deservedly still at the top. - Rated 5/5
It's amazing after so many years that this book still bounces around the top of the charts. Bob has written a large variety of follow up books (all of which I've read too) and I wouldn't begrudge him that ongoing success in any way.

The reality is though that it's all here. This is really the only one you need and it is a work that will stand the test of time for many, many years years.

Truly outstanding book.

The Mind Bible - Rated 5/5
I came across this book and Bob Rotella in general in 2002 when i was a four handicapper who regularly shot well under par in practice, but in competition i couldnt recreate the same run of birdies to build and maintain a great score and found myself shooting 74 or 75 when I had been in position to shoot 70 or 69. I started reading a chapter a night, out of synch with the book index, over a period of about three months at the start of the season. My competitive scores started tumbling at an alarming rate, even though what Rotella describes to you is just general common sense....positive mental attitude is proven in all parts of general life as well as sports psychology...i think the chapter "train it and trust it" is the one that had the most profound effect on my game and it taught me to enjoy feeling nervous when in competition and to use it to my advantage, rather than feeling that it was distructive to my game. Oh, by the way, my handicap came down to scatch within the next season. I then moved house and lost the book in the move...funnily enough after about six months of not reading the book a chapter per night every night, my handicap was back upto two and increasing with most competitions even though i was practicing more than i used to to compensate for my loss of form as i saw it. I have recently re-bought the book and am already seeing the impact on my game. This is a must buy book for anyone who is serious about golf, i am not saying that it negates the need for practice, far from it, but it will help all types of golfer enjoy the sport more and start to fulfil their own potential, whilst banishing the negative thoughts that destroy competitive rounds of golf.
