Rainy day relaxation - Rated The Usborne Great City Search will appeal to fans of Where's Wally and similar puzzle books. The book is slightly larger than A4 size, with 12 double page spreads showing city scenes. These are very detailed illustrations containing dozens of things to spot on each page. You follow the mayor in his day touring the city, visiting the hospital, school, park, building site, etc., and in each hand-drawn scene are various things to find - 12 dogs, a fountain, 15 squirrels etc. etc. in the park, and so on. A few of the pictures are ambiguous, and you can be left wondering if you've found the right images. Fortunately there are answers at the back if you get really stuck. Amazon recommends this book for 4-8 year olds, but some of the vocabulary is hard for younger children, and adults should be prepared to help in the struggle to find that 14th duck. Many older children (7-9) will enjoy working through the book without help, though the older ones might prefer other titles in the series with more interesting facts about animals, bugs etc. This book is part of a series of Usborne Great Search books, and I would recommend them to occupy a child on rainy days, journeys, etc.
