Everything you missed on Atkins. - Rated
I bought this book 6 months ago. For me it worked, loosing over 25Kg. The great thing I found was that I did not have to follow the quantities recommended in the receipts, which are often based on four people. Providing you made your meals from raw ingredients, one could eat all 4 portions and still loose weight. The book gives little guidance on alcohol intake, but again through experimentation I discovered you could have a major blast out at the weekend, resulting in a slight weight gain for 1 or 2 days, but an accumulative negative over a whole week of 2 - 3 kg. If you like spicy food this is a great diet. Although oily fish is a key part of the diet, there are many none fish menus on offer that when chosen require you to take omega 3 tablets. This I found preferable to the first recipe involving anchovies and olives.
Good easy to understand book - Rated
I thought this book was well written and the descriptions of the 12 units were clear to understand and made interesting reading. Having done 1 week of the diet I have already lost 5lbs - proof that it does work! However, I did find there was a down-side in that everything you put into your mouth you are encouraged to make from scratch. This means that you end up spending a lot of time in the kitchen - so it isn't really for the lazy. The advice is good and it promotes a healthy and balanced way of eating rather than "diet".

Note to any health 'experts' who intend on writing a diet book in the near future... tell us what we are actually supposed to go to the supermarket and BUY. By the time I had trawled through the book and gone through all the recipes one by one, written down all the stuff I was going to need, and guessing at how much of everything I was going to use over the two week period, I was not only pulling my hair out but also losing the drive to even try the diet. So before my first day of dieting began, I was bored, irritated at the amount of food I had bought and how much it had cost, and beginning to think that these people imagine we all live in some fantasy world where we have endless time, money and patience. This is not a diet for people who work during the day, due to the unrealistic meals suggested. This is not a diet for people who live with their partners but intend to diet alone, as you will spend a fortune at the supermarket. This is not a diet for people who simply want to open a book, and get started. The forenotes are an interesting read, but by the time I got to the bit about the food, I was losing interest. I bought the book after reading a review in Cosmopolitan, which gave it good marks out of ten, and was really up for trying it out. But I wouldn't recommend it.

Good book for weight loss and healthy eating - Rated
I liked this book because it neatly sums up all that we should know about healthy eating. It is easy to understand and gives plenty of up to date research. You do need to make quite sweeping changes if you've been eating a junk food diet but I think I did want to be motivated to do that - I feel much better about myself now I know I am 'eating right' - and I have lost 7lbs in 3 weeks as well.
