brilliant AND unique - Rated
People have said that this book is similar to the likes of harry potter. it is notrhing of the sort. The plot is new and original with satasfying moments throughout the book. the way angie sage uses a completely new method for casting spells while being confusing at first can only be described as risky but worth it. amazing book and the rest of the series are also on a par with this book, if not better. 5 stars.
Wonderful reading for the whole family - Rated
Found this book by chance and have enjoyed reading it to my children. In two week we have read the first three in the series and can't wait to get started on book four.
The humour and the suspense of the books keeps the children motivated and reaching for the next page.
Can not recommend Anige Sage and Septimus Heap enough
It's a good read for its target audience - Rated
I found the book easy to read and certainly had some clever ideas for the more magical aspects, however, I did find it quite niggling that, as one reviewer has already mentioned there were similarities with Potter that actually could have easily been avoided. For example Jenna's pet rock "Petroc Trelawney" and she actually had a character with a similar name to Weasley. I know they are not big things but they were a few irksome items that took my mind away from this book and into Potter. There of course is as well the storyline similarities of the evil wizard plotting a comeback and the young boy just discovering his true magical talents who is the one to fight him.
Despite this I think the series, so far, is a fabulous read for the age group it is marketed to. The younger audience will most likely not take notice of any of the things that niggled at me and take it at face value as a good story. Perhaps those of us a bit older are just hoping to find our next Potter - the series that crosses over into the adult market with a new and challenging tale.
Unoriginal - Rated
Although this book can be quite funny it steals a lot from Harry Potter, and even Terry Pratchett. The Heaps, for instance, are quite obviously the Weaslies.
"Kiddie book" which is a reading pleasure for adults as well. - Rated
If you are looking for something "academically correct masterpiece", this is probably not your book. But if you are looking for a good read just for the heck of enjoying one, you might just want to pick this one up.
This is the first book of the Septimus Heap series. Tells about the story of the poor but magical Heap family in a kingdom beside a forest. Septimus was stolen at birth by the midwife but the midwife's baby boy was mistakenly taken by the evil sorcerer instead of Septimus. 11 years later Septimus found his family again but its not a happy ever after but a struggle against evil. Of course the story was not as straightforward as that. It has twists and turns that makes this book an enjoyable book on a lazy Sunday morning.
Recommending the sequels to this book, Flyte and Physik.
