Remember what life is about... - Rated
This book is strategically placed on the end of my bookshelf, so that I can reach it easily whenever I want to re-read the many passages I've highlighted. It contains many inspiring thoughts and actions and encourages you to have the same. Along with world adventures and some very funny moments. It also has a political voice, and opened my eyes to the injustices faced by the people in Tibet, very timely in the year of the Beijing Olympics. This book inspired me to do many things...travel, try and have compassion and understanding (not always easy),look after yourself as well as others, and also to have a picture of HH the Dalai Lama up on my wall!
Gripping , sensational - Rated
I loved this book as Isabel made a journey that is also on my wish list! While it is written with humour and sensitvity it gave an insight into the life of the tibetans and heightened my awareness of the problems they face.
It is a thought provoking book that I couldn't put down and that has also inspired me to do something to change the world.
The power of love - Rated
What a powerful effect this book
had on me - whilst informative and maintaining a lightness dealing with
serious issues, it had a profound emotional effect on me....I am a well
adjusted, sensitive person, but a pattern emeged whilst reading - i would
finish a passage, chapter or section, then usually begin sobbing
uncontrolably whilst feeling love for all concerned and more often than not,
"hugging" the book to my chest! Thankyou Isabel - your determination, courage and
sense of purpose are wonderful! Well done!
Read this book. Be aware, then act...Send love
Best book I bought this year - Rated
Only bought this book recently, and I have only read about half of it so far. Like a previous reviewer, I want to make it last, and I find myself rationing my reading of it so as to put off getting to the end for as long as possible.
I agree with everything that has been said so far by other reviewers; this is a book that restores your faith in the human race, and gives you hope that somehow not everyone is out for their own ends after all.
This writer puts words together in a manner that makes them a joy to read. In addition, the content is interesting, funny, and makes you feel good just by picking it up and reading a few pages.
Fascinating, exciting, touching, enlightening and amusing - Rated
This is a book about what one person can do to change the lives of others for the better and about overcoming fear and taking the risks necessary to do so.
In it you will learn about Tibetans, Chinese people, Britain, climbing, sky-diving, public relations, the media, friendships, relationships, publishing and international politics all from a personal perspective but also from the perspective of others including those who disagree.
It describes the author's own experiences in learning about Tibet and the Chinese occupation indirectly through books and organisations, directly by travelling there herself and through meetings with Tibetan exiles, Chinese people and ambassadors and campaigning organisations.
It covers every viewpoint and gives both sides of every argument.
It does all this without being difficult to read in any way - in fact it's a pleasure to read.
Anyone who has attempted to campaign for any people or issue they care about will identify with the author's account of her campaign for Tibetans and anyone who wants to learn how to campaign and how not to lose hope due to difficulties or setbacks should read it.
It is 'political' only in the best sense of the word - it is about trying to change peoples' lives for the better or save lives - not about disputes among or within parties or blinkered types of ideology that refuse to see other viewpoints or possibilities or engage in debate.
