A lovely read - Rated
A lovely read. I really enjoyed this book; it is delightful and well written. I liked the way the author took me along with Lara on her road of discovery. And the descriptions of food and meals were mouth-watering. I could smell the food and feel the sun. A wonderful substitute for an Italian holiday of my own!

Posh daughter comes of an age, visits Tuscany, sports with a cad. Warmish middle. Soignee beginning. Darkish end. All together "Love Falls" conjures the potent narrative drive of Mr Gorey's "The Willowdale Handcar," that little regarded masterpiece of univocal focus and thrusting threesomes. The cad is no black sheep. The girl delightfully unbothered. The pull of family, tradition, duty, et al play their handsome part. This is no "Avanti" but nonetheless transports one to the railhead in sometimes frolicsome style. The morbid itch of incest flickers awhile. The Willoughby girls whom she encounters - five of them no less! - compose an instructive album of types: curious, serviceable, malicious, constipated, improper. The authoress resists the horrors of exposition. There is no cable-car permitted to break down on this declivitous mountainside. The shadow of "Stealing Beauty" - hovers like a more spritely guest. The father-figure a maven we surmise we know all about. The rape scene elusive. In one's dreams one might even seek such an otherwise idyllic mise-en-scene for oneself, a refuge from the underbred, the inquisitive, the unwashed. Indeed.
