Excellent and thorough - Rated
This is an extremely detailed and well written (translated) examination of the biblical, and indeed real-life figure of Jesus of Nazareth. The Pope's style is clear and relatively easy to understand, but also very deep and rich in its examination of the subject matter. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for an in-depth treatment of the Gospel accounts of Jesus' teaching and his life.
Ratzinger's Jesus - Rated
A book for the serious reader - thoughtful, thought-provoking, and intellectually challenging - written not just by an obvious, declared Christian but one deeply in love with his Jesus of Nazareth. Do not be put off by the author's "official rank" - reading this book can be a very rewarding experience.
Wonderful - Rated
Worth reading alone for His Holiness' extended meditation on the Lord's Prayer, this is a beautifully written book, sparkling with intelligence and wit.
Jesus of Nazareth - Rated
Jesus of Nazareth by Joseph Ratzinger. One of the best books I have ever read. It clearly demonstrates that the Jesus of the synoptic gospels and the Jesus of the John gospel are one and the same. Pope Benedict shows that the claim to divinity is as overwhelming in the synoptics as in the John gospel. I looked again at the book and on one of the pages I had written in pencil `more wows per square inch than anything I have ever read'. My opinion has not changed since I wrote that. Read the last paragraph on page 44.
I am a protestant by birth but every time I think of Pope Benedict I smile.

A profound and scholarly book - full of humanity, warmth, reverence and hope. This work of a leading theologian is not, perhaps, the easiest read but it repays handsomely the effort made.
