Customer Reviews

A delight of a book! - Rated 5/5
An absolute delight of a book, quite different from any I have ever read. As much a treasure trove of gardening tips as vignettes of people's lives, their problems and concerns, ethinc traditions and garden produce set against the backdrop of the politics of London allotments. A must for gardeners and, indeed, any people who have an interest in the natural world struggling against our capitol city.

a gentle read - Rated 5/5
I took this book on holiday to read. I'm interested in getting an allotment so thought it might be worth a read. It's not a book about gardening but about gardeners. I really enjoyed it and thought it was a warm gentle read. It's divided into the 4 seasons and at the end of each season there is a seasonal recipe. There are some lovely illustrations too. I found myself warming to the different characters, and interested in the different parts of London that he referred to. I really enjoyed it and still want an allotment. But i was frustrated that we never did hear how his parsnips turned out.

A fun, quirky book - great gift - Rated 5/5
If you're like me then you dispair about buying a present for your Dad - more socks, a new tie...yawn.

This little hardback caught my eye and isn't a dry 'how to' book, rather a year in the life of an allotment owner, there are also some beautiful illustrations. What matters most is that Dad loved it. I recommend highly.
