Fantastic Theme and a Great Idea - Rated 5/5
Welll I thought the book showed how life in India was sixty years ago. The story about two children and their father located in the middle of the war is a great way to open peoples minds. The way that they show women having less respect and authority show the reader how it use too be and how it still is in some places. The theme is excellent!

Thoroughly enjoyed this book - Rated 5/5
Wow! I am a mum of two and my son(9yrs) was due to go and visit Jamila Gavin with school but it was cancelled unfortunately.I started to read the book though and I couldn't put it down. Although my son didn't read it, he kept asking for updates as he liked the storyline so much. I thought it was a little old for his age and wondered what age it was aimed at. I loved the book though and loved all the characters but I wasn't keen on Govind and felt sorry for the children - though they are incredibly strong and brave. I have just ordered number two in the trilogy and can't wait to start it! Thank-you Jamila Gavin for a lovely book.

Brilliant start, odd ending - Rated 4/5
Started off well, with a good description of life in India just before the war. Both the children and their plight seemed realistic, and were dealt with sensitively. However, the character of the chidren's father seemed rather odd, and the ending just didn't ring true. A good book, but not one to read again.

It is a very enjoyable book. I recommend it greatly. - Rated 5/5
This book is based on my religion. I really enjoy reading books on the history of my home state. The book is about a boy, Jaspal, a girl, Marvinder, who are parted from their mother in the war. Their father is in England working as a scholar.
Jaspal and older sister Marvinder go to find their father and reunite their family.
This book is the first book of the trilogy. I have read the 3rd book and I also recommend that book as well.

This is a fantastic book. - Rated 3/5
"The Wheel of Surya" is a fantastic book. As a school student I can say that this is the best book I have ever read. Its description of children in India makes its theme really effective. Religious differences is also a big topic covered in this book.
