Not quite what you are looking for. - Rated
Released in the US as "Purple Reign", this book just does not deliver the goods as far as real insight into Prince. Other reviewers state that the book is a must for die-hard fans. As a die-hard fan, I would take issue with that, as almost everything contained in the book is wideley known by anyone that has followed Prince's career. However, if your loyalty runs along the lines of, "I like Prince, Purple Rain was great!", then you may find some new information. Where the book is really disappointing though is in its delivery. It is poorly laid out and jumps back in forth between different events without advising the reader that the years have changed. Go for Per Nilsen's book if you really want to learn something about Prince.
Nice but had the chance to be alot better. - Rated
This book was a good read but like most Prince books contained the same old stuff, but what makes it special is the fact that Liz Jones was allowed into Paisley Parks to talk to both Prince and Mayte. It contains some intresting info about the time around the Emancipation release and death of Prince's son. Although it has been rumoured that alot of the book was just stories. It's a must have if you are a prince fan but for someone who was allowed into paisley park there really is very little that is new, and the question comes into mind how much of it is the truth. There are a number of glossy pictures in the middle potraying major eras of Prince's life nothing new though, as u would of thought Prince would of given her some never before seen photos for her book. For the price its well worth it and its a good read but be careful how muchyou actually believe and you'll probarly miss out the chapters which are about the old ie pre 1990s.
