Childish - Though there is nothing wrong with that! - Rated 4/5
Alright, I admit that when I bought this book it was purely for childish titilation and that is what you get, in pary. There is no denying that there are some funny place names in the UK (Scratchy Bottom is definatly a favourite) and the authors could simply have listed some of those, along with pictures of signposts of course.

Instead, they did that, but they also added a good deal of interesting information about how somewhere may have ended up with such a name. It turns this book away from being mere lavatory humour into something far more interesting.

Worth a read, even if you will be done in 15 minutes!

Excellent read - different Ed Hurst! - Rated 5/5
In response to the other feedback, the author of this book is not the same Ed Hurst as the author of the other books.

This is an excellent book, very interesting and informative, yet remaining hilarious! It's a perfect present for that "hard to buy for" friend or family member. Do yourself a favour and buy it!

to stop your sides from splitting with laughter. I see Python, Blackadder and Bruce Forsyth as influences here. An ideal Xmas gift purchase or request. Double the laughter as you picture Aunt Gladys walking into Waterstones and asking for that rude book. Try Ed Hurst in Amazon and see his other titles, something is not quite right here.

More than meets the eye - Rated 5/5
The title "Rude Britain" disguises the hidden depth of this little gem of a book. That only seems appropriate considering that the apparently smutty names of the places featured are, in fact, the result of the rich history of our nation. The authors present their material without making cheap jokes at its expense; rather, they delve below the modern connotation of each name to reveal its true origin, a process that invariably leaves the reader marvelling at the richness of the English language past and present

Painstakingly researched and beautifully presented with accompanying photographs - often amusing in themselves - the book betrays the authors' attention to detail. Little wonder it has been given pride of place in several bookshops I've visited recently. An ideal present for anyone who has ever wondered how the places all around Britain got their apparently smutty names

Brings out the sniggering schoolboy (or girl) in us all - Rated 5/5
Rude Britain is a funny and informative tour of the rude and crude place names that are dotted around Britain. If you're the sort of person who wouldn't be able to drive through Muff without having a chuckle, or see Twat on a map without guffawing, then this is for you. The book also provides a bit of background on the origins of these odd place names. All in all, a very amusing little book.
