Customer Reviews

Tedious and lacking umph - Rated 1/5
I found this book long, tedious and hard work! There is a ridiculous amount of detail on everything you ever wanted to know about the magazine industry but were afraid to ask. The characters are so rife with baddies one has to wonder who exactly is the good guy. I usually polish off a book of this size in a matter of days, this one - even though there were sections I just skimmed - took over a week. I have one more of NC's books, not sure I can withstand another.

...Who needs enemies - Rated 1/5
A friend recommended this to me as something to while away the hours when I was convalescing after a bad illness.

I'm not entirely sure it did me any good though, and rather think it might have made me feel a bit worse.

As thrillers go, it is in the Dick Francis genre but sadly without that story-teller's pace or insight. There is glamour to be had, but it seems to have been inserted into the thing as a commodity in itself.

I found the characters very conventional and the unfolding of the plot mundane. Of course, I might be missing something here, but on reflection, probably not.

Page turning thriller with a publishing backgroud - Rated 5/5
Having discovered this book rather late in the day (I believe it was published a couple of years back) I found I had missed a lot. This one is a great read, very enjoyable stuff. Interesting too. Mr Coleridge has an easy style, quite sophisticated but quick to read. Recommended.

Page-turner thriller - Rated 4/5
Excellent tale, well told. Bought it at an airport in Cairns, of all places, with nothing else to read. Got hooked straightaway. He knows how to draw you in. Sympathetic characters - an all round good read.

Trivial and deep thriller - Rated 5/5
The book is light when you start reading it, and very easy to read, but some of the characters make you think, and some of the situations too, especially the inside scenes about the publishing world. The are some really clever characters who seem very real - especially the tycoons. But he is also briliant at writing about small children. He gets it.
