A Woman's Journey! - Rated
I am a huge fan of Roger Ellory's work, if you haven't read Candlemoth or A Quite Belief In Angels then I suggest you do they are brilliant. So to Ghostheart, I enjoyed this book and I have entitled my review a woman's journey because that is how I felt at the end of it (being a woman myself!) basically its a story about Annie and her desire to share her life with someone ... this someone crops up but he may not be all that he appears to be, u know the line a girl has to kiss a few frogs before she meets her prince well that is all I will say! There is a wonderful non sexual relationship between Annie and her neighbour Jack which is very powerful, such depth and loyalty its very touching, I would love to meet Jack in real life! Roger Ellory has the knack of extracting emotions from his characters and hitting them smack bang into you the reader. I think women will really relate to the character Annie and have experienced some of the issues she goes through. There is of course a great sub plot which I enjoyed and adds to the depth of the story immensely. So my summary is a good book, a good read! and the only reason I have given it three stars is that his other novels in my opinion and that is what we all have readers,is just a personal opinion, are beyond staring, they are just superb!!
am i missing something? - Rated
I read Ellory's "A Quiet Belief in Angels" and found it quite amazing so i wanted to read more from this author and have just finished "Ghostheart". Am left feeling disappointed and at a loss to see why the reviews you have posted speak so breathlessly highly of it. I wasn't carried along by the maelstrom of Annie's emotions and in fact in the last few pages the author seemed to have run out of ways of describing her emtional rollercoaster and it felt like a bad Sunday-afternoon movie. Definite teary overload ladies, come on. Not sure if I will try "Candlemoth" now. There, sorry if I wasn't propelled into despair and laugh-out-loud hilarity like you all seem to have been. And what was the interlude with the naughty priest on the tube meant to convey? After the magnificent prose of "Angels" this was pure Woman's Own. Perhaps it would have been better to read his works in order.
Terrific read ! - Rated
Loved it! This is the first book I've read by this author and from start to finish I was enthralled.
The main book is set in the present with another storyline running alongside spanning the years from Auschwitz to America in the sixties. The past and the present are both equally gripping.
A book full of vengence and betrayal - if you haven't read it yet, believe me it's worth reading!
I've already bought another two novels by this author and now have the tough choice of which to read first.
Great read! - Rated
I have only recently heard of this Author, and have now read both A quiet belief in Angels, and Ghostheart. From the moment I picked this book up, I didn't want to put it down... I finished reading it ten minutes ago, and cant wait to start reading Candlemoth. If you know anyone who isnt a great reader, try them on this book.. it has an easy reading style, and flows well. It will definately appeal to women readers, who will really relate to the emotions being experienced by Annie, but is also a good enough plot to keep any reader captivated. Off to start Candlemoth now....
