Brave lady on a bike - Rated All my fantasies about cycling round the world have been brought rudely down to earth by Ann Mustoe's books and this latest one is no exception - she's doing it all so that I don't have to. This time she is pursued by dreadful weather nearly all the way - I would have given up by Paris. I do admire her openness to the people she meets on her travels, whether friendly, hostile or just curious. I also admire her linguistic abilities - she learned Mandarin Chinese to prepare herself for an earlier journey, and in this book manages basic Turkish and is disappointed that her modern Greek is not up to scratch. In this book she travels near water across Europe and the Middle East in the footsteps of Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar and Cleopatra, and by the end you feel these people lived only a few years ago, not more than two thousand.
