Customer Reviews

Not the real deal ? Actually it's better! - Rated 5/5
We bought Gillian McKeith's first book, full of good intentions, but quite honestly it wasn't the sort of food I could serve up to my husband - the ingredients were a bit too weird and hard to find and it seemed a step too far if you know what I mean.
However, someone showed me this one and it was entirely different, so much so that I bought it. I've only just realised the reason - it isn't by Gillian McKeith!
Well, so what! It's full of healthy recipes of the far less extreme variety and I have used it constantly.
I have so many cook books on my shelf, each containing only one or two recipes I actually cook. Not so this one - there are loads of inspiring recipes to choose from.
If you can't quite stomach the real Gillian McKeith diet, try this one.

Food news you can use! - Rated 5/5
As someone who wants to eat healthily, but doesn't have the time or money for weird supplements or 'health foods' that taste of cardboard, this book was a welcome addition to my bookshelf. I have to disagree with the reviewer who found the book 'basic' - it goes into some depth on complex areas, but manages to explain them in user-friendly language.

The book isn't preachy - it's practical. But it pulls no punches and gives do-able advice on how to reduce and cut out the 'nutritional bugbears' from your diet. It explains *why* we need protein, fats, and carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals, then, really usefully, gives tips on the best sources. It goes through the various ages from children to the elderly, flagging up 'hot topics' where nutrition impacts on your general health, such as how food affects your hormones, how to reduce your risk of osteoporosis, heart disease, depression and Alzheimer's, to name but a few.

All in all, a fantastic book for anyone who's interested in food, and cares about their health.

Only for beginners - Rated 2/5
Unfortunately, barely any of the information mentioned in the publisher's description of this book actually existed. The so called "nutritional plans" basically suggested that we all eat more vegetables, which I'm sure everyone in today's society is aware of! I never did find the year long healthy eating plan, and the so called ample information on excercise consisted of one page of suggestions such as ride a bike or go for a walk. Continual repetition and such little substance that I finished the book in an hour. Truly only suitable for someone with no imagination.

I certainly wasn't looking for a miracle book, but I was expecting to receive something more than what children are taught in schools about the food pyramid.

Positive aspects: easy to read, fun and colorful format, and the basic nutritional overview could definitely help someone wanting to make a lifestle change but not sure how to start. However, if you have any basic knowledge of healthy eating than I wouldn't recommend this book.

That's the point... - Rated 5/5
I just want to defend this book. The VERY reason I bought this was because it had nothing to do with Gillian McKeith. It has a much more relaxed, realistic and achievable guide to eating healthiliy. I LOVE the recipes in there. They are set out Month by Month which can make finding them a little difficult but you soon get used to it. It's SOOO interesting to read. If you enjoy eating healthily try this!

I would not recommend this book (no stars) - Rated 1/5
This is a simple cash-in on the "You Are What You Eat" T.V. show brand.

The actual content of the book has no relation to the TV show whatsoever. The only similarity is the branding of the book.

The book claims to be a "meal planner" and is laid out by month to encourage you to eat by the seasons. But the book offers only a couple of recipe ideas for each month, and is certainly not a practical meal planner guide that the title of the book would make out.

I was so dissappointed with the item that I actually returned it back to Amazon - the first time I have ever done this!
