Slow Cookee perfection! - Rated This is a beautifully produced cook book; great pictures, clear instructions, and a wide variety of recipes, covering all major food types. The first part of the book also provides very useful information about different foods and appropriate methods of preparation, timings, etc. All in all, a must have book. Good, does what it says on the tin - Rated A good book for those wanting to progress onwards from the basic stews and soups, lots of easy recipes that are good for feeding a family during the credit crunch, some more adventurous stuff for those that want some diversity in what they dish up! slow cooker - Rated This book was just what I wanted it is much better than the book that came with the cooker originally thanks Beautifully illustrated, but not really necessary - Rated I'm a devotee of slow-cookers and use them frequently for casseroles and slow-roasting meats. Generally I just adapt my usual recipes by roughly doubling or trebling the cooking time, depending on whether I use the low or high setting on the slow-cooker. This book has some useful advice for a person new to slow-cookers and is beautifully illustrated, but I didn't find this book inspired me to do anything new. I did think that some of the recipes were in the "sledge-hammer to crack a nut category", for example, I'd never use a slow-cooker to cook fish for an hour or so which can be cooked in minutes on the top of the stove. The real strength of slow-cookers is to make cheaper cuts of meat beautifully tender and they do this even better than a conventional oven, while saving energy; and have the added advantage that timing isn't precise and you can keep what you've cooked on hold on the low setting without doing harm. One criticism I do have of the book is that in several recipes (such as Lancashire hot-pot) it is suggested that you brown the surface layer of potatoes under the grill, but all the slow-cooker manufacturers' instruction leaflets I've seen state that you can't even put the crook-pot in the oven, let alone under a grill.
