What a good read! - Rated 5/5
Wow! I started reading this book on the bus home today and I now only have about thirty pages left as I cannot put this book down! A true insight at what abuse can do to a normal little girl, who turned into a truly amazing woman! And a husband that believed and cherished her from the beginning and stuck with her until she was ready to tell her story, unbelievable! Got to finish this book before the day is over!

excellent - Rated 5/5
I couldnt put the book down, fabulous read..... and if you read these reviews Julia i would just like to say that i think you are amazingly brave, and after all you have been through, to come through the other side and help others is amazing.... You should be very proud of yourself!

Fantastic read and a shing example to others who have been abused - Rated 5/5
Julia's book is a truly inspirational read and teaches us a lot about the impact of childhood sexual abuse. I think that anyone with a similar background who perhaps has not dealt with their issues could gain more of an understanding about the way they think and feel when they read this book. Julia has put across very well the conflicting and damaging thoughts and feelings abuse provokes in an innocent child and she gets the message clearly across that 'the truth sets you free'.

Julia has been fortunate in that she has a wonderful and supportive husband Jon who has always believed in her, even when Julia's actions and decisions were so clearly faulty. In order to set Julia free from her past, together they set up recording equipment and recorded Julia's father admitting what he had done to Julia when she was a child. Their clever tactic worked in a spectacular way and from being labelled a fantasist and a liar as a child, Julia has been able to show her family the truth and felt able to hold her head up high. She was able to make an official complaint about her father and he stood trial and received an eight years jail sentance. For me that was really compulsive reading.

In contrast, how sad to read that her family have not stood by her and stubbornly refuse to accept that Julia's father is infact a paedophile.

For me as a reader it has helped me to better understand the story of others who have suffered abuse and this pattern of family's standing by the abuser seems to be a common theme.

The conclusion I have come to is that for the abuser it is better to speak the truth loudly and clearly and what ever hasppens as a result of speaking up would be a liberating experience. Those who fall from your life as a result of this will be part of the freedom process and in time will be seen to have been part of the abusive process. There are clearly many, many implications that come with being an abused child but as Julia has shown you can free yourself and go forward in life.

I have bought copies of the book for people i know who are suffering the effects of abuse and i would encourage others to do this as well. I hope that Julia's words help in setting many people free.

Disturding - Rated 4/5
Wow! Simply fantastic, Julia Latchem-smith's story is defiantly not for the faint of heart, graphic from the start and heart wrenching until the end, it made my stomach turn more than once but nevertheless her amazing life has been made into a book that is highly recommendable!
