Customer Reviews

Fantastic! - Rated 5/5
What a great read! I couldn't put the book down from the moment I picked it up! It was a good job I was on holiday at the time!

All the twists and turns keep you engrossed in the book, and the writing really gives you an insight into the characters, I feel like I've known them for years!

Definately worth buying!

The most enjoyable book I've read in years - Rated 5/5
From the first page, this book absorbed me entirely. It's refreshing to find an intelligently written and well crafted novel by a gay woman - many are appalling! As a bonus, her very British way with words had me laughing out loud on several occasions. Gay or straight, I think most readers would find themselves thoroughly engaged in the characters and plot. Suffice it to say I've just ordered both of her follow-up books!

A book you never want to end. - Rated 5/5
Kellen Stuart having long ago become disillusioned with the medical profession is now a therapist in a bereavement centre. Like many of us she finds it difficult, painful even, to deal with past relationships; choosing instead, to run away and bury her head in the sand rather than confront personal issues. One late night she receives a phone call from her childhood friend, whom she hasn't seen in four years, telling her that her former lover is dead. Kellen has a choice; help the woman she was once so close to and deal with her past and present emotions, or walk away like she did before and leave the investigation to the local police force. Having decided not to abandon her friend, Kellen begins to piece together the threads of deception and slowly unravels the horrific truth of her ex-lovers death.

This story is much more than a simple "whodunit". The sinister plot is a solid one, inventive and with enough tangled threads to keep you guessing right to the end. However, it is the development of the characters and their relationship with one another that is the strength of this story, taking it way above the usual books in this genre. Ms Scott eloquently moves between descriptive prose and character conversations. The Farm on which the main story revolves is "real", you can see its scenic beauty clearly in your mind and want to be there, to experience the solitude and walk the paths that Kellen takes. The West Side of Glasgow is damp, grey and teaming with life both squalid and trendy. Her characters are people you want to meet, to have as close friends. This book has every emotion running through it, pain, horror, fear; but above all, humour and love. A brilliant first novel.
