Clever and well written - Rated
You can take Dan Brown and his appaling writing style and give us all Michael Dobbs instead.
This is a very clver book, well written, a great twists and turns story and well researched.
His attention to detail is excellent and it is a book you will not really want to put down.
It mixes contemporary news and events and puts them in one of our most recognised historical contexts. Very very good indeed.
Cracking good story - Rated
This is an un-put-downable book. It kept me reading late into the night! Michael Dobbs succeeds in keeping the tension throughout as to the outcome of the siege in the House of Lords. It's like a cross between a Frederick Forsyth thriller and a political satire. Some of the time you're holding your breath as to what will happen next and the next laughing at the wittiness of the writing.
The Best Yet from Michael Dobbs - Rated
I have read a number of books by this author and I found this to be the best so far. The portrayal of the various characters from the publicity hungry politicians seeking to shift blame onto someone else to the selfdoubting Prince of Wales reinforces the opinions probably held by most people. The storyline left me thinking, surely this could never happen, but.........
Michael Dobbs portrays the ultimate terrorist hostage drama - Rated
The story unfolds during the State opening of Parliament. The Queen and leading British politicians are held prisoner. Dobbs displays his knowledge of Westminster and its political animals - the retired politicians elevated to the House of Lords who become unlikely heroes and the maverick MP (who is, conveniently, a former member of the SAS) are very convincing. I was less convinced by the US ambassador and the hysterical female president. A good book to read on the plane.!! May I also recommed a brilliant novel by Tino Georgiou--The Fates. It was simbly brilliant.
