a light, easy read - Rated
This is chick lit at its purest form.
A hairstylist divorcee, mother of 3, who is hired to be a "pretend" fiancee to a bad-boy handsome politician to help him clean his image sees all her dreams come true.
The book is well written and its characters are quite well developed, though the story is very light and bording in fantasy, it is sometimes fun. If what you are looking is something where you won't need much concentration, then this is the book for you.
Hilarious - Rated
I'm more of a historical romance person, but Donovan brought me back to contemporary. She's hilarious in this book, I just couldn't keep my grins - surely I looked silly in Tube - she's that good.
Jack is so honest with his expression, you just fell for him. Sam is an identifiable person, you feel warm for her having met Jack.
I'm now looking for Donovan's other books, not that many though.
Strictly Business? - Rated
Hairstylist Samantha has three kids, an gay ex-husband who has fallen off the map and a cash flow problem.
Jack has a terrifying mother, a reputation as a womaniser, and an election campaign to win.
The two form a `strictly business' alliance to their mutual benefit. Sam gets a gorgeous place to live, the kids school fees paid and the end to her financial worries, and Jack gets a ready made family and respectability in the run up to the primary.
But as business quickly becomes pleasure, how can they continue to convince their nearest and dearest that their feelings are purely professional, whilst convincing the rest of the world they are madly in love?
`The Kept Woman' is a fast paced US romance with engaging characters and a swift plotline. It's a little predictable but none the worse for that. Perfect for holidays or long winter evenings!!

brilliant - a must read for all romantic fiction fans - Rated
when i first picked up this book in my local library i wasn't too impressed with the synopsis. But, although it starts quite slow, it is really worth it when you get into it. you have to love jack and the character of sam as well. it was written brilliantly and in a funny and original style. i would definitely recommend this for anyone who loves romantic fiction. its not completely original, (the storyline has been revamped a lot), but it is original at the same time in the way it has been writeen and the path the story takes to the inevitable ending. a must-read.
