Brilliant read - Rated
A real page turner, lots of twists. First Karen Rose book I've read, and will be reading more. The light romance didn't spoil any thrills.
Fantastic - Rated
I have read all of Karen Rose's books (except scream for me - the latest) and I have to say, this was my favourite. I get fed up with reading reviews saying "yes the story was great but the romance spoilt it". Karen Rose books are thrillers with romance or romance with thrills - if you dont like romance then dont read her books because they are all like that, as is Nora Roberts, Beverly Barton, Sharon Sala etc. Having said that, If you like a bit of spicy romance, read on. The stories are always excellent and keep you guessing till the end, and for continuity you should really read her books in order as some of the characters re-occur in later books!
Too torn between a romance and a mystery - Rated
I picked up this book based on the reviews I read here and I was disappointed. The mystery itself is fine but the love affair kept interfering with the story line. The detective and the prosecutor were great when they focused on their roles, but the love scenes...well it was just plain embarrassing trying to imagine these wooden characters rolling around on the floor, the bed or wherever they found themselves alone. I think the book would have been much better and more credible without the soft porn in it. And let's face it...who ever really has time for romance when there is a killer on the loose!
Part Thriller, Part Mills & Boon - Rated
It's almost like the author couldn't decide on whether she wanted to write a thriller or pen a romantic novel. If Rose had removed most of the romantic intrigue and concentrated on the story, this would have been quite a good book.
The book is about the police urgently trying to find a serial killer who appears to be killing people who have escaped justice at their trials. All the victims were in trials featuring the same prosecutor. The killer keeps sending her messages claiming to be her "humble servant".
Sometimes it can be confusing remembering which character is which, as the author would frequently refer to them by either their first name or their last name. It's okay if you do this near the end of the book, but at the start it was just annoying.
There were quite a few good characters in the book, such as the enthusiastic journalist, and the ruthless Jacob Conti. However, I can't help feeling that the police should have caught the killer half way through his killing spree, but the ending was pretty good.
The book would have been better if it had been "tightened up", especially by deleting most of the highly detailed romance writing.
Good book but a little bit too graphic in the romance area - Rated
Great plot - and well executed and written, but the romance scenes .. oh my word! I just skipped past most of them .. too graphic and pointless to the actual storyline of the book .. did put me off reading it a bit, however, that said, it was a good book. As an alternative for others of you out there, I have just finished reading Retribution by Jilliane Hoffman .. now that is an unputdownable book .. recommend you try it.
