Edge of the seat thrills - Rated
I loved this book from the minute I picked it up until the minute I put it down and it kept me reading long after I should have stopped and done some studying. The storyline involves a computer graphics designer who acts out the scenarios from his games in order to draw them realistically. The detective engages the help of an archeologist to solve the mystery of the graves which have been found and off the story goes at a whirlwind pace. Unlike other reviewers I enjoyed the personal storylines and feel that they make the book much more engaging. The descriptions are extremely graphic but very well written and I could imagine every scene. This is the first book I have read by Karen Rose and it will certainy not be the last. Any fan of the mystery thriller genre will certainly enjoy this.
Brilliant! - Rated
one of the best books i've read this year, have already had my boyfriend and parents read it! i would recommend this book to anyone, the way the victims die was extraordinary the idea brilliant. have since read two other books by karen rose and recommended them both!
Dark and depressing - Rated
Having read this book my observation is that the author seems to only really enjoy writing the gruesome gory details, rather than the whole story, these soon become boringly repetitive, though no less grim.
The story behind the gore is miserable and weak, only really coming to life in the "obligatory" sex scene, which personally I found dull and predictable.
I'm a fan of horror thrillers and this definitely had its fair share of the macabre but I tend to feel that if a book can't manage a suitably dark ending such as Richard Laymon delivers then it should opt for the "happily ever after" style of Dean Koontz- this book has neither, it merely runs out of emotion and dies.
Disappointing.
If you have read one of her books, you have read them all! - Rated
I have read the author's four books so far but now I am giving up. The heroes/villains are totally interchangeable. The author has only one strict formula and never improves on it.
If you like overbearing men of Italian/Irish background with large families looking to start breeding themselves, then this is for you. Add a damaged, isolated woman, a serial killer and a mother/sister who loves cooking and you have the next Karen Rose thriller.
Lazy, unimaginative writing.
Loved It - Rated
Dont be put off by the size of this book - it is a cleverly crafted thriller with twists and turns from start to finish. The main characters have real substance and as the story unfolds their relationships become key to the outcome
