Alberich's Tale - Rated 5/5
Finally, we get the tale of how Alberich of Karse became a trusted Herald of Valdemar. The only tale I really, really want to get now is that of Sun & Shadow, which has been a burning desire since I first read Arrow's Fall in 1990.

Exile's Honor focuses on how a captain of the Karsite army, Alberich, maintains both honour and self-respect after he escapes his own leaders' attempt to burn him to death for "witchcraft" (he gets short visions of the future) and is "chosen" to become a Herald of Valdemar, a country with which Karse has been at undeclared holy war for over 500 years. How he balances his oaths to the Karsite people, to serve and protect, with the needs of his new family (the Heralds) creates interesting reading, with many a thought-prevoking look at the meaning of honour and the value of an oath.

Does a leader's betrayal & corruption mean you no longer have to serve the people? How can you become a Weapon's Master and train people to spy for your country's enemy? If the priests are corrupt, is the religion false? These and many more questions await you as you pick up this book and Mercedes Lackey has once again created a masterpiece of fantasy exploring ethics and morally often taken for granted in a "Hero".

The only other thing I can tell you is that this book never left my hands until finished so be prepared (snacks & drinks at hand - the partner away for the night).

Mercedes Does it Again - Rated 5/5
Exile's Honour is a brilliant continuation of the Herald's sagas. This has fleshed out the Alberich character in great depth and given the reader the chance to know and understand him better. I like the way the story encompasses the Selenay time line and gives more information of some of the other best loved characters. This book also allows the reader to get closer to understanding the thinking behind the creation of this world.
