Great for beginners like me - Rated
Well I was one of the many people in this world who always wanted to play the guitar ever since I was a kid. Now at the age of 28 I decided to take the plunge and buy my first guitar. I must admit I was apprehensive as I thought I wouldn't have a clue what I was doing. Well I was right in that I didn't know what to do but this book lays it out in such simple form that even I,who previously had zero musical talent can now play simple guitar. The book is very well laid out and is very simple to understand. The normal dose of humour that is a custom with "For Dummies" book helps to further lighten the mood. So I can after 1 month or so play a variety of chords, play some scales and even play some simple tunes. Thanks to the authors of this book for helping me realise my dream of being able to play the guitar and I look forward to the rest of the book. Buy this book now you wont be disappointed!

I have been looking for a good teach yourself guitar book for years.Having tried to teach myself on to many occasions.I never had the patience to learn i tried and failed on many counts and not seeming to find the right book i gave up.But now having found the Guitar for Dummies,Hurray the book i've been looking for has arrived and what a book giving all the right instructions with great pictures, what else does a budding Eric Clapton need,I've learned more in the first few weeks than i ever did before,This book is a must for all beginners.I would recommend this book to any budding guitarists.Easy to follow and well explained.KEEP ON ROCKING
Absolutely brilliant! - Rated
The book is absolutely brilliant, the instructions given are clear and easy to follow, and with a dash of humour when your fingers ache from playing! There are pictures to illustrate fingering, and the fact that they give you standard notation as well as tablature is very useful! I have had the book for three days, and was a complete beginner and now I can play simple pieces (albeit a little hesitantly.) All that's left to say is:
BUY THIS BOOK - YOU WON'T REGRET IT!
12 Months later and still a useful purchase - Rated
I really rate this book. I puchased this and the accompanying video when I first picked up the guitar and knew nothing at all. They have both proved really valuable aids, the video lasted a couple of weeks but the book is a very useful reference aid that keep on using. It got me playing simple songs within hours and had helped me steadily progress (in conjunction with lessons and other reference material)
I would recomend this book for absolute beginners and intermediate players alike as it has a wide range of subjects and topics.
So far so good - Rated
I'm still in the process of working through this book. It is a great guide for those of us with very little or no playing experience. The text is easy to understand and the fretting pictures are helpful. The authors seem very competent. I also enjoyed the humour throughout.
The only reason I'd give this a 4 instead of a 5 is that I feel it is a little chord-heavy. I would have liked to have had additional tunes following each section of chords to practice on before going onto the next section of chords. Of course, you can simply look outwith the book for additional material...
Overall though, I would recommend the book to anyone just starting out, or with very little knowledge.
