Helped me alot - Rated
As a rusty knitter who hasnt knitted for 20 odd yrs ( age of 11 before you think me ancient) i needed a book to refer to instead of getting on the phone, going through elaborate discriptions of what i think i should be doing and having my mum burst out laughing at me ( classics include do i turn the knitting over for each line of knitting was a classic- now you know why she laughed). This book was my answer. It is clearly set out , helpful and highlights areas where common mistakes can happen. It also has simple projects to try and samplers to learn your new skills. All in all , if you are new to knitting or need something to explain knitting in further depth this book is for you. It covers basics as well as more complex knitting styles - pretty much most things you need really. I will be using mine a lot as i seem to now be addicted much to my husband's disgust :)
And yes it seems i am a dummy afterall .......
A great book to keep close at hand... - Rated
I think this book is wonderful and generally will keep it close to hand if I am working on a project that includes a few new skills or terms that I've not yet met in my knitting journey.
The illustrations are as clear as illustrations for knitting can be made. The suggestions throughout the book are helpful, and the basic project ideas good starters.
Generally this is not the type of book that you need to read cover to cover. Most people would probably read the first few chapters and then dip into the other chapters at points that interest them. You don't need to know every skill in this book to be a good knitter. :)
Brilliant! - Rated
Fabulous for beginners, really easy to understand, clear and concise. I have been knitting for about two years now and I call this book my bible! It has really helped me to progress (and it is the only book I have used) and I am now able to complete quite challenging patterns. If you are just starting out then this is the book for you!
Not that great for beginners - Rated
As a hopeless knitter with everything I have attempted so far ending up in the dog's basket, I had high hopes that this book would indeed provide assistance for a complete dummy. However, there simply weren't enough illustrations and many of the instructions may as well have been written in a foreign language for all the sense I could make of them, and as I have a First Class science degree, I found it utterly infuriating that I was unable to make a connection between what was on the page and the disaster unfolding in my hands. For the time being I have left this to collect dust in favour of a DVD with excellent demonstrations of basic techniques (like sitting next to your granny), but I may return to it one day when I've learnt the lingo.

This is a great book for anyone starting to knit. It answers almost every question you have about knitting. A friend brought it for me when i was laid up at home with a bad back. she suggested i knit to pass the time, she brought me this book and a baby pattern, plus everything i needed. I found it so helpful.
