I purchased this dummies book along with other sewing books.
Overall I was not hugely impressed when comparing it to the others.
I would advise anyone looking for a sewing book to add 'The Complete Book of Sewing (Needlecraft)by Alison Smith'
to their collection, even if you do go ahead and buy this dummies book.

A great beginners book - does exactly what it says on the tin for the most part. It teaches you all the basic things you need to know to make up your first dress pattern. I didn't give it five stars though because I think it needed more illustrations in places (we are dummies, after all), and I found some of the terms were used as if you already knew what they meant, such as 'stitching-in-the-ditch'. Which I still don't get...
Great Beginners Book - Rated
This book is great for beginner sewers and also for those with more experience that need a little help with certain techniques. Detailed and simple instructions given for all the techniques listed in the book. Covers a massive range of topics and has projects to be completed along the way. The only reason I am giving this book 4 stars is that I found the projects to be a little out-dated and more focused with home decor as opposed to clothing... but this is just personal preference really. Overall a great book, very handy to have.
FANTASTIC EASY TO FOLLOW BOOK - Rated
This book has to be the best sewing book I've found, I was after a something that would help me through some of my more challenging projects. This book has everything you need whether you're new to sewing or experienced, from all the basics, to more advance in tailoring, soft furnishings etc.
Straight forward explanations and clear diagram's make this this book easy to follow.
In my opinion, a copy should be in every sewers kit !
not as good as it could be - Rated
This was certainly useful as I knew nothing about sewing but I found the emphasis quite skewed. This lady has a wierd taste for craft things, and gives a lot more attention (and illustration) to stuff like making a greeting card covered in buttons than useful things like taking up a hem and or taking in a waist band. Also references that refer to chapters rather than page numbers make it a bit tedious. It's not bad, but I'm sure there's something better out there.
