Excel VBA for Dummies - Rated
A good starter for VBA programming. I combined reading this book and searched for code examples on the web to create my first application - seemed to work.
A lot of pages to say very little - Rated
This little book does what it says on the cover, provides an entry level guide to VBA for Excel for beginners but takes a lot of pages, particularly near the beginning, to say very little. The attempts at humour are also unbelievably irritating. Nevertheless, it is an invaluable entry level guide on a topic that is appalling badly written up by Microsoft and is like picking up mercury with boxing-gloves. I will be picking up this book every time I return to this slippery topic after time spent doing other things.
Does what it says on the cover - Rated
This book does what it says on the cover - it gives most of the guidance you need to get started. However, you can obtain many good examples of macros directly from the Microsoft site.
Excellent - John Wallanbach is GOD!!! - Rated
This book pretty much sums up all of John Wallanbach's books on excel. Informative, well structured, to the point and in plain english. Gives you all the basics you need to get started and moves you to the point where you can start actually impressing your work colleagues. I have since moved on to a more advanced VBA book (also by John Wallanbach by the way) but still find this book useful for simple and accessible points of reference.
My only niggle is that John only specialises in Excel. If he wrote books on all of the other Office Applications then my bookshelf will contain nothing other than John Wallanbach books. Oh and where is a dedicated book on Pivot Tables John? I have an ok book covering the subject but you would do it far better. Sort it out mate :0)~
Seriously though the best technical author on the planet by a country mile. Every book I have read from him (and I have a few)are incredibly engaging to read, direct and to the point, in words you only have to read once to comprehend and has logical flow and direction. Trust me he is the ONLY author to choose when it comes to Excel.
BTW why did the guy who only awarded this book 3 stars then go on to tell us what a great book this is. This is a 5 star book - END OF!!! Bizarre :-p
Just what I wanted - Rated
This product is exactly what I was after. I use excel in work and I consider myself to be very capable using it but I wanted to learn how to write macros to make certain processes easier. This product was perfect for me as I know very little about programming.
