Useful book, but remeber to use common sense!!! - Rated
A useful book for someone who's not very experienced with dogtraining from puppyhood. But as it goes for everything written or said, whether it's a book or a review, be critical and listen to common sense!! Out there are a lot of books & people who say that they do it the right way and others are sooo wrong...!Also when it comes to fitness & health for us humans!! ;-)
Good to remember; if "the book doesn't work" is you experience, it's not the book or the dog - it's You that doesn't have enough patience...The dog learns, it depends on if You know how to teach it!!
The book provides good information about neutering & spaying, and on the contrary as someone wrote on the review, it focuses a lot of the positive effects of neutering/spaying (did you REALLY read the whole book?)! As much as on why leave the dog as it is.
Crate training was something new for me, but our dog is just a little angel while left alone (and a little menace while we're at home!)- so he sleeps where ever he wants to. This time I chose not to use a crate, maybe dog nr two?
The authors are pro-homeotherapy-fine, let them be so, but YOU chose what's best for your dog!I'm still taking my dog to the vet for treatments, until there's something they or proper training can't fix...? I myself do yoga, but it's not a religion and I leave out "weird" things too!!! Common sense again...
I've had two dog earlier, but none from puppuhood, so this dummy was pleased with this book (and several other ones too)!!
What would I have done without you ! - Rated
I bought this book just after rescuing a 4 month old cute cross breed puppy from the dog pound. 10 months later, when that cute puppy has turned into a very intelligent, but very strong-willed near adult, I am STILL dipping into this book for advice and confirmation that my dog is not the only one who acts in certain ways (not all good !). I have learned an amazing amount about dogs in general and would recommend this book to anyone who feels that they already know a lot, but have an open mind and are willing to learn more.

While the general principles outlined in this book are good, it advocates the use of quite extreme techniques such as choke chains and prong collars which some (including myself) may find questionable.

Having two unruly dogs this book was a dream come true. There are full explanations about everything that you need to know from how to gain the trust of your dog, why they behave the way that they do and how your behaviour effects them. This is along with fantastic techiniques in how to manage and also change the behaviour of your dog. This book comes with high recommendations as it has made my life a lot easier, by being able to understand the behaviours of my dogs and how I can change their behaviour for the better.
