So recieved my eagerly awaited book, the next thing to destroy my game (forever the optimist). I used to play of a legit handicap of 8. I am not a natural, I have to practice a couple of times a week and play at least once. I do take the odd lesson, but never regular enough to get where I want to get to. So here lies my problem, golf has become a bunch of positions, movements and wait for the result. This book is different in that it explains things in a way that I understand. Note, this may not be true for everyone, as I practice more what the book says I understand things quicker. Also, I have a much better insight into what my instructor has been trying to get me to do and why. There is no quick fix, but everyone has a different way of grasping things, this book is great for me, someone who is analytical, wants to improve, makes time to practice and is patient. Unfortuntely, there is no replacement for the instructor, and in my opinion it needs to work in conjunction with a good pro to get the best result.

This title is well over ten years old now and the information contained within sets the record straight and breathes fresh life into the frustrating, foolishness that is golf. The text is instructive and science based in its approach and can stand up to anything Leadbetter, Harmon etc can muster based as it is on the common swing traits of 100 top PGA golfers. Best of all for me is the setup where every detail is explained in a proven manner. No opinions here.
An update and a word of warning. This book succeeds too much in its conception. I found though trial and error I have had to adapt its advice to my swing and not be so exacting in its delivery. Setting the ball so forward allowed a fade and then a slice to develop. Strengthening my grip did the opposite. A slight lateral shift became 'casting' and so on. Be careful! Having a lesson or two in conjunction may prove prudent and beneficial.
Fantastic golf instruction - Rated
I bought this book when I was a 28 handicapper and actually in truth a 40 shots over merchant. I had been playing for about 6 months when I found the book on Amazon. It is absolutely amazing, giving all the correct positions and faults a thorough airing. I found that by reading a chapter and practising (using the great drills they give you) I got better all the time. I am currently on a 20 handicap but will be losing quite a few more strokes off my card when the whites go out again. I highly recommend this to players of all ages and abilities, if you follow the instruction and practise you can't go wrong
Finally Some Real Information - Rated
This book is like a breath of fresh air, after years of inhaling the stale stuff. After taking lessons from 6 "top" teachers and getting 6 conflicting opinions - I gave up paying good money for instruction, and was ready to give up the game. My golf library fills two bookcases, and it offered more of the same opinion based drivel. I then came across the SLAP book, and found what I consider the Bible of the sport.
Read it and you will learn. Follow the drills and you will improve. This science based stuff puts the opinion sellers to shame.
Good but you need to be flexible - Rated
A well written book but while I tried out the swing, I strained a few areas such as my knees, back and wrists. Recommendation: Get a good stretch book before you try to swing like a pro!!
