Interesting but not backed up in a meaningful manner - Rated 
Much of what the author says from purely an observational point of view is interesting and thought provoking. You can see elements of what he says in the UK, especially the blindness of authorities with regards to the radical threat, the way that the moderate muslims keep quiet as a whole with indivduals only speaking out, and also the way that immigrants regardless of religion etc "can", i.e. not always and thus not all, take advantage of the state and political correctness. However, in the book, these are observations intertwined with personal experiences by the author and not ,yet anyway, based on factual evidence with regards to "all" the muslims in these countries or Europe as a whole. Added to the fact that he is overtly an American patriot, and for the way of life esposed by the US, it's difficult to agree with what he says 100%. If it was written as personal observations or in an autobiographical way about the author it may have had more effect. Instead, it is adding to the American ideology, against the rest of the world type of mindset and not just radical Islam, with America being the only glimmer of hope, "you're with us or you're not.." type of sentiment. More should be done by the liberal muslims to stand up against these thugs and bullies in their religion. Maybe they have fallen into the same sort of placid acceptance that nothing can be done as have many in western Europe. That in it's own way is dangerous.
Bigotry disguised as an impartial review - Rated 
There is definitely a big problem with fundamentalist Islam in Europe, but if anybody thinks that they will glean anything of use from this book then they'll be quickly disimbued of that view.
Bawer tends to write in generalities, a point of view he accuses europeans of having, but claims that americans are taught to think for themselves. Thus in Bawer's world there are only fundamentalist Muslims - no moderates - and no differences between any european nationalities.
Bawer makes many sweeping statements, claiming for example that all europeans are brainwashed by their authoritarian governments, that europeans are frightfully ignorant of what is happening outside Europe and so on. Americans are classed as independent-thinkers, cognescent of foreign events to a high degree - despite all the research pointing to a completely different conclusion - welcoming etc. Muslims, needless to say, just wish to kill all non-Muslims according to Bawer.
Bawer makes some extraordinary statements in his book: Reagan and Schwarzenegger are original thinkers; everybody in Europe admires George W. Bush; Silvio Berlusconi has been excoriated by the press because he's a businessman, not because he's a crook and has legislated to avoid prosecutions.
In another place, Bawer claimes that 70% of inmates in french jails are muslims, but doesn't give any sources, leaving one to take this as just his personal opinion.
By the end one feels that if Bawer hates Europe and europeans so much why didn't he leave after the first day and go back to that paradise which is America.
Impartial writing is needed when writing on the problems with religion; perhaps Bawer knows somebody who could write such a book.
A Voice in the Wilderness! - Rated 
Being a European myself - a Dane - I can certainly vouch for the truth of Bawer's statements as far as Denmark is concerned. It is sadly true that our press is vastly tendentious and strives to educate, rather than enlighten people. In Denmark, this objective is made piece-of-pie easy by the fact that more or less all news passes through the same tendentious news agency. The result is a predominantly anti-American atmosphere that is very ill-founded on facts.
Other reviewers have gone into detail, so I'll stop here with the wish that Bawer's book be read in European schools and put a stop to this insanity a.s.a.p.
This book Should be Compulsary Reading for all Europeans - Rated
The uneducated and stupid liberals deserve all that is coming to them. The real criminals in this whole tragic saga are the Politicians who have allowed this mess to happen. The whole of Europe will one day be another Balkans and thats not a scare story. It does not take an Einstein to work that out. This book will scare the living daylights out of you. I could not sleep because of the anger it provoked at how a whole Continent is being destroyed in the name of Political Correctness. The populace of France once stormed the Bastille when conditions provoked them to say enough is enough. It's time now to do the same to the European Parliament and rid us of these ridiculous freeloading pigs feeding at the trough of tax payers money. We are taken for a ride by these lunatics. Time to wake up and say no more. ONLY THE FAR RIGHT IN SWITZERLAND WINNING THE RECENT ELECTION GIVES ME SOME HOPE. But until the far right of other country's take control no hope. If you believe in democracy then sure as night follows day. With the ever increasing birth rate all from Islamic immigrants then they will eventually have the majority vote. Then god help all. You will all be dhimmi's a most suitable name for so many dim Europeans who do nothing. READ THIS BOOK IT'S A MUST.
Muslims will complain about this review. Because that's what they are told to do to fool the stupid and naive. Of these their are too many.
Incorrect Information by Mike J. Wheeler - Rated

"The lack of references and the 'misrepresentation' of Europe is a problem because he gets facts wrong that I DO know about so how can I trust him on that which I know nothing? Here's an example. Comparing Europe to the US, Bawer cites a long list of inventions that were made in the US suggesting it showed the innovation of the American spirit. He cites as 'American' discoveries/inventions - calculator (Japan), CDs (International but really Dutch and Japanese), DNA (3 Brits, 1 American at a UK university), the Internet (British), transistor (German but developed by US), computer (very, very debatable!)."
Lets look at your statement -
Calculator - The first handheld electronic calculator in the world was designed at Texas Instruments in 1967. How do you get Japan?
The Internet - I'm not sure how you missed this but the internet is a child of a US government funded agency called ARPA (Advanced Research Projects Agency, also sometimes known as DARPA where the D stands for Defense) which was a technology research group set up to counter the USSR in 1958. The first network was the ARPANET developed by Lawrence Roberts in the US and the protocol to transport packets (TCP/IP) was developed by Robert Kahn and Vinton Cerf in the US.
The Computer - The computer is too complicated a device to credit a single country with however it can't be argued that the number of scientists in the US that contributed to computer hardware and software technology probably outnumber the contributions made by the rest of the world combined. I say this while fully aware of the importance of pioneering non-American scientists such as Charles Babbage, Alan Turing, Konrad Zuse, etc to the development of the first computers. With computers, you're probably walking a slippery slope to not give America most of the credit.
Claude Shannon, Jon von Neumann, Robert Metcalfe (Ethernet), Dennis Ritchie & Ken Thompson (Unix, C), etc. I'm not going to go into every single protocol such as IP, TCP, graphical interfaces, etc. Without boring you with a long list, take a look at the winners of the Turing award each year and you'll see that Americans have easily won more prizes than the rest of the world combined for contributions to the field of computers.
