a very biased book - Rated
This book is very biased, it's not an objective book at all, worse yet perhaps is that it is filled with patronizing colonial attitudes.

Mr. Patten was the former British administrator of Hong Kong, or "president"/"PM", whatever you wish to call it, a position he lost after Hong Kong became part of the PRC.

In this book, hoping to "enlighten" the Westerner about Asian culture, he gives a very patronizing view of Asia.
Just like a disgruntled expat complaining about the host country he used to lived in, everything he writes has a certain smugness to it that's hard for me to explain.
In short, Patten gives a very negative view of Asia and its people, that's all you really need to know about this book.

Even one of my Asian-Studies-teachers ridiculed this book.

So don't waste your time and money on this book.

Rambling with nothing new to say. - Rated
A very disappointing read. For a world ranking politician and would be diplomat, a very poor effort. The book is a hard slog with no reward at the end of the day by way of any revelation or insight.
