First Class is Top Class - Rated It may not be gritty, it may not be thought provoking but X-Men First Class is definetly one thing- fun. First Class is a welcome return to 1960's style comics. Where most other X-titles are more dark and adult and sophisticated, First Class takes a more light hearted approach with fantastic adventures, happy endings and plenty of humour (I laughed out loud at the yearbook pages!). Revisiting the original X-men in there younger days enables the writer to correct the inadequacies of the 1960's comic like giving Scott a personality, elevating Jean from a housewive heroine and allowing the story-focus to be more fairly distributed amongst the characters. However it also pays homage to the old days- the gang pop into Coffee A-go-go, Zelda and Bernard the poet make apperances. Look out for Who Wants To Date A Millionaire, where Warren goes out with the Scarlet Witch and The Treasure Hunters which featues a giant talking monkey! I highly recommend this charming, funny and beautifully drawn book but be warned- once you start reading, you won't stop!
