Bendis finally shapes up - Rated In my opinion, and not to put to blunt a point on it, New Avengers, until this string of stories, was a mish mash of confusing and convoluted character history, some pretty pictures and little else; all style, no substance. The dialouge was appaulingly choppy and the plotting was terrible. Here however, in the fertile Marvel garden left by the wake of Civil War, Bendis manages to get his fists around the throat of his indie/Max comics heyday with an actual compeling story, reasonable dialogue and some tense moments, all complemented by the love it or hate it art of Lenil Yu (I personally love his art). Oddly enough, the crossover that resulted in some of this volumes revelations have turned into a halfway decent Crossover event, penned by, you guessed it, Bendis. I for one am glad he has left his crapulent "No more Shield, stop raping me!" era behind him, ploughing back into what made Alias and his Daredevil run great; coherence and fun stories. Post Civil War, a book revitalised - Rated New Avengers was launched out of an event designed to revitalise the Avengers brand, with Bendis at the helm collaborating with a host of talented artists. In the wake of the Civil War, the Avengers team was torn apart but is now rebuilt with a lineup of on-the-run heroes. This colletion tells their story as they search for a reason to remain a team. Bendis mixes action and drama with his usual ease and new ongoing artist Lenil Yu brings a stylised but powerful look to the proceedings. His Luke Cage especially showing deep conviction in every panel. I liked this book before the war, but love it now! (oh, and don't miss the shock ending!) okay, gets better as it goes along. - Rated Originally released in seriel format, just as the marvel civil war cross over came to a close, this made more sense in that form. The story doesn't flow very well, constantly skipping back and forth through different time periods. This is due to the fact the story wasn't able to show certain events until they were revealed in other comics. That said it is a fair story that leads into bogger and better things. The script is very good, and Bendis writes the characters well. The art is odd
