Big help for intermediate jazz guitarists - Rated 5/5
The arrangements are excellent - sophisticated and varied. And, the CD makes it possible to hear and play along with the songs performed by the arrangers. This is a a big, big help especially with time keeping. I only wish that Mel Bay had included recordings of the comping versions of these songs which are included in the earlier editions of these books. If you love the Great American Songbook and want to sound like a mainstream, mellow jazz guitarist this is the book for you.

Notation, Tab, 2xCDs, tons of good arrangements. The perfect book! - Rated 5/5
I have purchased a few chord melody books recently but this has to be the best one yet. The tunes are properly arranged (as opposed to just harmonised as in the Robert Yelin books) and the level is intermediate to advanced.

There are lots of nice textural ideas like counterpoint, walking bass, contrary motion etc. that really make the arrangements breathe. I like the Yelin books as a point of departure for your own arrangements, but these make pretty nice performance pieces as they are.

Very good for the intermediate student to analyse and learn or for the professional who wants to check out ideas that he/she might not have thought about, or simply as first-class teaching material. I also like the staggering amount of tunes (44). They are very well chosen (just the tunes likely to be called out at a jam session) and since they are some of the must-know ones it's nice to have nifty little arrangements up your sleeve.

The CDs (yes, two of them!) are performed in a very 'educational' way, very clear but a bit plain, but they are the perfect addition to halp you choose where to start. At 12 quid it's a crime not to get it!
