It's about the balls... not the table - Rated
I have read some reviews that complain the book is for American tables and does not apply to the English game. Lets be clear, there is a section devoted to rules which does talk mostly about the American games but the main part of the book is about how the balls on a table interact when you hit them a certain way. All you need is a bit of imagination to apply this to any game be it 9 Ball, 8 ball or even Snooker. This book works really well as a day to day manual that you can refer back to, you need to practice the shots and then it begins to come to life and make a difference to your game. A must have in my opinion.
Everything you need to know to be a great pub player - Rated
This book is excellent for the beginner who wants to look good when playing in the pub. It will not, however, transform you into a world beater. The descriptions of how to play the shots and the explanations of what makes them work are very clear. Whether you play on an American or an English pool table is irrelevant, all the shots will work if you practice them and play them correctly. The last few shots in the book do concentrate on straight pool but you will obviously improve your skills if you practice them. The book shows you how to play the shots but there is no substitute for pratice when it comes to improving.
British players beware, this book is for American pool! - Rated
it was unclear from the Amazon reviews if this book covered British or American pool and while some of the 99 shots hold true for both versions, unfortunately the physics of the two tables are different and most shots described will not work on British tables. Does anyone know of a good book for British pool to make a good player (self taught) outstanding?
Mastering (seemingly) difficult situations - Rated
This book is great for a beginning or moderate poolplayer, it makes you aware that some situations are a lot easier then you thought they were. With this book you can improve your play fast.
SOME of the tip were helpful, while others were useless. - Rated
I found the book to be very helpful in some aspects of my game...there were a few shots i had never thought of taking and i even turned a few heads. But the book didnt really help my over all game and most of the shots that were helpful hardly ever come up. I was looking for a book to help me be a better pool player and i was slightly disappointed. cj keronen (slakker@msn.com) howell,nj
