WOW!!!! - Rated
If you're into action packed, cant-put-it-down, conspiracy-type stuff, this is definately the book for you!
The story line is brilliant and captivating. I've only finished reading it this morning and i'm gutted i have to wait a whole day till saturday to get the next in the series. Great for Christians AND non-Christians alike. Not the least bit offensive to those from non Christian backgrounds/views but does allow opportunity (if you're the deep-thinking type) to 'soul-search' and consider your own thoughts and beliefs about God and Jesus as you 'get into' the minds of the main characters.
Leaves you wondering if there's the slightest possibility that these things could really happen and where you'd end up if it did come true..........scary but gripping!
So what should you do next? Pick up a copy............unless ya wanna be Left Behind! :)
Religious propaganda thinly disguised as science fiction - Rated
This book made me feel distinctly queasy - in fact, so much so I wasn't able to get beyond three-quarters of it. However, if you enjoy reading full-on Christian fundamentalist progaganda in the shaky guise of a futuristic drama, then this is definitely for you.
The scenario is that millions of people have disappeared - including all of Earth's children - with grief and horror on a colossal scale. You might think that this theme would be developed - or at least mentioned again! - through the book, but no, after three days everything seems to be back to normal and one of the 'heroes' has had a blinding revelation through watching a videotape! This blinkered, one-eyed effort is rounded off by stereotypical descriptions, wooden characters, banal dialogue, poor research (if any) - please note, we haven't drunk 'ales' in pubs in the UK within living memory - so that the end product is truly dire.
Physically, too, the book is a poor effort. My copy was printed on cheap paper, contained spelling inconsistencies, unnecessarily large margins and unjustified text. Visually, it appears to be aimed at gullible twelve year olds with severely challenged attention spans.
To sum up, I found this book disappointing, smug, offensive and insulting to my intelligence.
Read at your own peril - Rated
I am another of the many that picked this book up and flew through it, barely taking time to use the bathroom or eat. I am not a big reader, but found this to be very easy to read and fantastically gripping. From the first few pages the book had me immersed.
I must admit however that the next book or so in the series did slow down but they soon pick up speed again and soon you will just want to race through all of them. Only buy this book if you are happy with reading through an entire series as you'll be thirsty for more at the end.
Offensive, dull, trashy - Rated
I listened to this book as an audiobook rather than read it, which was a shame, because I would have given up on it much sooner had I been reading rather than listening. In fact, had I had an opportunity to read the dust jacket I might not have bothered. As it was, I listened with no idea of the book's subject or the author and his agenda.
Firstly the book is rather poorly written, it reads like an airport purchase pulp novel. Cheesy, sentimental and littered with plot errors.
Worse than that, as you get some way into the book, you realise that the book is not just recounting a story, but has a 'message'. It left me feeling like I'd been dealing with one of those doorstep evangelists: the kind who appear at your front door to ask if you're happy and fulfilled and tell you what a nice day it is and then try to sucker you into talking about religion.
Worst of all, the book is offensive and insulting - offensive to anyone with non-christian religious beliefs and insulting to the intelligence by trying the doorstep evangelist trick.
If you are religious and of any faith other than christian I'd advise you avoid this as you will find it's feeble attempts to convert you annoying and it's tone regarding the validity of non-christian religions offensive.
If you are not religious, you'll just find it boring, preachey, condescending, offensive and overall a waste of time and money.
Last Days - Rated
This book starts on the day of rapture and lets us into the lives of a few who were left on earth. And then follows the obvious chaos that engulfs the world as everyone tries to understand how millions of people disapeared at the exact same time. Some of these people find their faith and turn to God. While we watch the rest of the world is entranced by the rise of the Anti-Christ.
This book is a page turner that I read in one day. It is full of suspense. Its swift pace focusses on world events as well as on personal experiences of a few people. We see how those few people we follow who are rational and logically minded make their decisions on whether or not they believe they are in the end times.
