for people, who are afraid to live - Rated
I bought this book because I was searching for answers to my not very happy marriage of 4 years. I started to read it and realised how much of negativity has been presented on those pages.. For example, one of arguments the author uses in order to argue the importance of saving your marriage is that 'your chances for the second marriage are not so high anyhow'... Well,I hope that it works for the author, but I can't see how it would help others. It's much more difficult, of course, to face your own insecurities and be truthful about your marriage, than using religion as the 'shield' to life. Do not buy this book.
Hmmmn, maybe it's me ... - Rated
This book is very Christian based, in that a lot of arguments are based on words from the bible. Which is okay I guess, but the bible can be used to argue for, or against, practically anything.
I did find this book useful because it reminded me of the importance of forgiveness, both of myself and my failings, and of my husband too.
Also, I kept thinking, "well, at least my marriage hasn't got to the sad state that this woman's did", as the author is very open with her feelings of dislike for her husband and his behaviour - and that was oddly reassuring.
However, this book certainly isn't for everyone.
Savvy advice and recommended for all marrieds. - Rated
Judy Bodmer's insights, and tips on surviving the maturing process of marriage are in-sightful, practical and on-target. This book should be recommended reading for anyone committed to making their marriage work and even prior to finding themselves in trouble.
Plenty of hope (without the syrup) - Rated
I picked up this book out of idle curiousity and couldn't stop reading. Finally, a Christian author has the guts to address tough marital issues in a transparent, honest fashion. There is no trace of the sugary-sweet but empty platitudes so many "Christian women's books" major in. Judy courageously shares some of the ugly stuff we all experience but try to hide, on her way to offering real-world, doable solutions for a conflicted couple. Even if you don't feel you have marital problems, this book is worth the read because when you're finished, you have a strong sense that you have been heart to heart with Judy and made a new friend. I hate religious phoniness, I love authenticity, and this book really works for me!
This book provides hope when it feels like there is none. - Rated
Through Judy Bodmer's refreshingly open and honest discussion of her once troubled marriage she provides insights into real and perceived problems and shares practical methods for overcoming the depression, doubt, and loneliness that occur from feeling trapped in a loveless relationship. Her message is that you are not alone and that there is hope. I wish this book had been available years ago. I might have made different choices that would have saved myself, and others, a lot of pain.
